It's nearly summer!

Seems that my one follower is disappointed that I'm no longer blogging. ;)

So, what's new here...

I planted eight raspberry plants (two red, six black) about a month ago. One of them is doing very well. Several others grew some but then kind of stalled, so I don't know what's happening. And then there are one or two that probably will never amount to anything.

I applied a heavy recycled paper ground cover (as opposed to plastic) on the garden, in the attempt to minimize the weeds, but it has not stood up to the deluge of rain and wind we've had in the past few weeks. My second idea is to cover what remains with leftover leaf mulch. I'm not sure if this is a practical idea...but I don't really want plastic, chemicals or weeds.

I'm really hoping for raspberries next year. It's kind of a downer to plant something that won't produce now, but at least it's fun to see the plants grow.

Our pool opens later than expected - next weekend. Marcus starts summer preschool (two mornings a week) tomorrow. So things should pick up around here. We'll probably spend a lot of time at the pool.

Of course, when I think of pools, I think of swimsuits (and then I think of dieting). Alas, the crusade to lose weight before swimsuit season failed. I lost a couple of pounds but nothing to get excited about. I'm still plugging along, and I guess a slight weight loss is better than nothing.

Marcus is now a fairly good tricycle rider. I've been considering buying a bike with a tandem trailer (like this) so that we can ride together. I'm just not sure if I'm a strong enough cyclist (what with the crappy knees) to pull a trailer+kid if he can't or won't do enough. We have a bike trail not too far from here that goes north and south of town, so it could be fun to get into riding, if my body would cooperate.

That's about it for now...

Thanks for the update! Yeah.. what's up with the pools opening the week after Memorial Day? The Jefferson pool doesn't open until next saturday. Bummer.

You should get one of those little kid bike thingies.. You and Marcus could noodle all over town and save gas/get excercise. :)
