Let me just say first off that I am very very glad that Obama won the election! I am also pleased that both Indiana and Iowa helped elect him. (The Iowa part is a jab towards my very conservative BIL, who is presumably not happy about this - Hahaha! is what I have to say to him). I didn't even know about the propositions happening out in CA until after the fact. It's pretty pathetic that they passed Prop 8 (thus prohibiting gay marriage). You'd think that CA would be open-minded about that kind of thing. They did however, pass Prop 2, which prohibits battery cages and other nasty animal torture devices. So that's something.
Marcus and I are currently sitting outside on what is surely the last unnaturally warm day of the year (well, maybe not, but certainly the last 70-something degree day). It is mostly clear and still 70 degrees at 4:30 pm. Gotta love it. We have our munchies, drinks and electronic devices. All is well. LOL
[snip pics of us chillin' on the patio]
Marcus got a new camera. Or rather, I ordered him a used camera. ;) It's nothing spectacular..rather pitiful actually, as far as digital cameras go. But it allows him to practice, and he occasionally gets some cool shots. I have uploaded some of the better ones to Flickr. Just ignore the bad ones of me. ;)
Plans are in the works to visit the Dominican Republic (aka DR) in January. I'm excited about this. We've been wanting to go there for quite some time, and I feel like it's been a while since we've gone on a trip that didn't involve visiting family (not that seeing family is a bad thing). So I'm fairly sure that we will not be visiting family at Christmas - and most likely not Thanksgiving either. But I'm not sure yet.
We're all sick with a cold here (me not so much, and Marcus is getting better), and I even had a root canal this morning... but with such a gorgeous day and things going well, I currently feel, well...pretty good. It's a weird feeling.
P.S. And then...we went in to get the camera and discovered that he had used up the batteries which I just bought yesterday (no automatic off on the camera). A few minutes later, he dropped the camera on the patio. Let's hope it isn't broken. *sigh*

I hope you have a lovely time in the DR-- I hope to visit there myself in the future...(there is a midwifery clinic/volunteer experience that I would LOVE to go serve with someday) I have seen pictures of the surrounding touristy spots--lovely!
Marcus is gettng so big. You are so brave to get him a camera..my kids would trash a camera in no time, LOL. Although, I do allow them to snap pics with mine every now and then. They really enjoy it. I will probably let them have mine if I ever upgrade.
Also-- love how you shared Marcus candy comment. Sounds like the little guy is wise beyond his years..although I am with you.. never too much candy!@ ;)
Okay....I have to admit that I was drawn to voting this year. My husband was so sure that McCain would win, and I even found a site for him to declare his priorities. He did and found that they were aligned with Obama! However he wasn't fazed.
I was working on Halloween, so I wasn't home for the beggars, however Ray says he had 30+ come to our door and he finally had to turn out the light because he ran out of candy! We haven't had that many for years!
The camera thing is really cute with Marcus. I viewed his pictures and found him to be a fairly good snapper! He finds some interesting things to capture and does it in a "different" way which is amusing and cute. Maybe he'll find it a lifelong interest.
I was surprised to hear of your next trip....to the DR.....what do you plan to see there? Of course as a worldly traveler, the DR might be of more importance to you whereas to me it would be further down the list of places to visit. Sorry to hear you won't be visiting Iowa for the holidays tho...keep those pictures coming since I still want to see you and Chris and of course Marcus and all his adventures! The holidays are a little fractured here anyway....Ray's and my work schedule don't seem to coincide with anyone elses time so we'll probably have problems getting together.
Hope you feel better, keep a positive attitude (aka the "secret") and let nature take it's course...
until later,
Happy trails!
